Tempting foods may not be healthy

By Joaquin, Colegio Nueva Granada reporter | Imagine you’re sitting in the cafeteria, and the most tempting food in the menu is a tall glass of chocolate milk. Think twice before you take the chocolate milk because it might not be so good for your health. 

Before I started writing this article, I loved chocolate milk and drank it a lot. But now after seeing what it does to you, I stopped drinking it and this is why.  

According to the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), “chocolate milk contains added sugars and therefore more calories that can lead to more overweight and obesity. In the United States, one third of children are already overweight and obese and at higher risk for chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.”  

In addition, when companies are making milk chocolate, they need to burn cocoa beans at high temperatures, and when they burn the beans it reduces antioxidants (substances that may protect cells in your body against damage) in the raw cocoa bean, according to the AICR.  

Kids can have milk chocolate, but it is also important to monitor how much chocolate milk they drink.
