Looking back at the Block Party
June 17, 2024

Student reporters, their families, and community volunteers gathered June 2 for a festive afternoon of fun, music, and healthy activities at the inaugural Healthy NewsWorks Spring Block Party. The event, celebrating the accomplishments of this school yearโ€™s Core Reporter students and the 20th anniversary of Healthy NewsWorks, took place at The Discovery Center in Philadelphia.ย

Each child in attendance received a passport to track participation in activities and stops at an array of learning stations. Kids got to try their skills at hula hoops, boxing, Zumba, and throwing a football with two NFL veterans, among other activities. Learning stations featured topics such as how a newspaper cartoonist works, how phlebotomists draw blood samples for medical tests, and habits for good heart health.
