Student reporters, their families, and community volunteers gathered June 2 for a festive afternoon of fun, music, and healthy activities at the inaugural Healthy NewsWorks Spring Block Party. The event, celebrating the accomplishments of this school yearโs Core Reporter students and the 20th anniversary of Healthy NewsWorks, took place at The Discovery Center in Philadelphia.ย
Each child in attendance received a passport to track participation in activities and stops at an array of learning stations. Kids got to try their skills at hula hoops, boxing, Zumba, and throwing a football with two NFL veterans, among other activities. Learning stations featured topics such as how a newspaper cartoonist works, how phlebotomists draw blood samples for medical tests, and habits for good heart health.
