This picture portrays several ways that small actions can affect people’s health, such as smoking and dressing appropriately for weather.

In the good picture: The girl in the middle wears a winter coat, long socks, a hat, and scarf. The umbrella covers her head. She smiles and doesn’t cough. She doesn’t wear a backpack. The girl with the umbrella smiles and doesn’t smoke. The girl in the red jacket smiles.

“Smoking doesn’t solely affect the smoker,” writes Maria, the illustrator.

Maria is in eighth grade at St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral in Camden. Her newspaper team is in charge of the Catholic Partnership Schools Healthy Courier.
