March 2021…Registration is open for Healthy NewsWorks’ Annual Celebration! This year’s virtual event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at 5:30 p.m., Eastern time.
Vernon Odom, who was a reporter for 6abc Action News in Philadelphia for 42 years, will host.
During the event, Healthy NewsWorks elementary and middle school student journalists will address the theme, “Doing the Undoable: What we endured, learned, and accomplished during COVID-19.”
The student reporters will share first-hand accounts of the pandemic and present interviews with community leaders ranging from front-line healthcare workers to an international vaccine expert.
Plus, we’ll unveil our 10th student-written and -illustrated book, Leading Healthy Change In Our Communities 2021: Doing the Undoable.
Registration is free! However, as a nonprofit organization whose finances rely on community support, Healthy NewsWorks would be grateful if you could make a donation as part of your registration.

A sponsorship contribution from your company or organization will help Healthy NewsWorks continue to:
- Empower young people to become researchers, writers, critical thinkers, and confident communicators who advance health understanding and literacy through factual publications and digital media.
- Introduce students to community leaders who can serve as role models and help them envision a bright future.
Last year, our virtual event drew more than 1,200 viewers as elementary and middle school student reporters interviewed many nationally recognized experts in medicine, policy, psychology, music, journalism, and outer space.
