Student reporters contribute to community newsletter
August 17, 2020

August 2020 … Three Healthy NewsWorks student reporters contributed to a community newsletter distributed to more than 80,000 Philadelphia homes this summer via food boxes and at other sites.

Equally Informed Philly is a project of Resolve Philly, which formed several years ago to help Philadelphia-area media report more effectively on communities experiencing racial injustice and economic hardship. Resolve Philly collaborates with a wide range of media outlets, such as The Philadelphia Inquirer, WURD-Radio, and the Kensington Voice.

The newsletter included an article by sixth grader Sara of the East Norriton Bulldog Bulletin about the importance of everyone filling out this year’s census form. Tyler, who just finished eighth grade at East Norriton, wrote about a recent interview he had with Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, former CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The interview focused on COVID-19.

“It was really cool to write the article because I usually only get to share my writing in school, and it felt good to know that my writing was helping people,” Tyler said.

The cover art for the newsletter was drawn by third grader Barbara of the St. Veronica Healthy Hero.
