Games reinforce health, research topics
October 14, 2018

October 2018 … Several new games have been added to the Healthy NewsWorks website to give student reporters an opportunity to brush up on key topics and have fun at the same time.

The interactive games test the students’ knowledge about heart health, dental health, and nutrition as well as their reporting know-how and web research and safety understanding. A little dexterity helps too!

For example, in “Bowling,” the player answers nutrition-related questions and then gets to throw a bowling ball electronically. In “Field Goal,” a player answers wellness questions, then has several opportunities to kick field goals.

“The students receive training in these areas as part of the Healthy NewsWorks curriculum,” said Marian Uhlman, executive director. “The games help the key messages sink in, and it also brings out a competitive streak in many of the students!”
