Keeping snacks healthy for your heart
August 4, 2018

August 2018… Amy Deahl-Greenlaw, R.D.N., a registered dietitian nutritionist and adjunct faculty member for Healthy NewsWorks, says you can have a delicious snack that is healthy for your heart and will be a hit with children.

Here are some of Ms. Amy’s heart-health nutrition tips:

  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to keep your heart healthy.
  • Aim for 2 cups of fruit and 3 cups of vegetables every day.
  • Think of snack time as the perfect time for fruits and vegetables.
  • Choose low-fat dairy foods for heart health.

Healthy NewsWorks reporters enjoyed taste-tests of several healthy snacks during the 2017-18 school year. They gave high marks to three: applesauce with raisins and cinnamon; fruit, vegetable, and low-fat cheese kabobs; and fruit fizzies.
