Whitehall Healthy Reporter staff tries out the dip with Amy Deahl-Greenlaw.
November 2016… Healthy NewsWorks reporters are getting to taste two of fall’s favorite flavors in one healthy snack.
“Fall is the best time to enjoy pumpkin and apples,” said Amy Deahl-Greenlaw, a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), who is introducing pumpkin yogurt dip with apple slices to Healthy NewsWorks reporters. “This delicious dip is a nutrition powerhouse, too!”
The snack provides protein, calcium, fiber, and vitamin A from three food groups: dairy (yogurt), vegetable (pumpkin), and fruit (apple). “But the best part is that it tastes so good and it’s so easy to make,” Amy said.
In her fall classroom presentations, Amy teaches reporters about nutritious snacks and leads a taste testing of the dip, using apple slices. Each reporter evaluates the snack, then each newspaper team writes a recipe review, including key nutritional facts.

Marshall Street reporters also give it a try.
Here are some of the questions that reporters consider:
- Do you like the texture of the dip?
- Is the dip sweet, salty, tangy, sour?
- Do the apple slices taste better with the dip or without it?
- Why?
- Could you eat the dip on other kinds of fruit/snacks?
- Which ones and why?
