April, 2016…Healthy NewsWorks organized a poster contest this year in conjunction with its Healthy Smiles initiative. The Healthy Smiles initiative allows student reporters to explore the benefits of dental hygiene.
Student reporters have reported on dental health issues, interviewed dental students, and even created a video PSA on the importance of dental health. Ten schools also participated in the poster contest. The contest gave students the opportunity to explore a particular theme (in this case the benefits of good dental health) through original works of art, and they learned how to use visual design to convey a message.
Volunteers from QuestCares (Quest Diagnostics’ Corporate Social Responsibility program) in Horsham judged the entries on the Healthy Smiles theme, creativity, artistic quality, and neatness.  They chose first place and honorable mention winners for the schools.
In addition, they picked 12 posters for a “traveling exhibit” in the Philadelphia area. Posters were on display at the year-end art show at Norristown’s ACPPA Community Art Center in May, and will be on display at the Montgomery County-Norristown public library and at the Norristown Area School District Administration building throughout the summer. The posters were also on display at the June 8 Kick-Off reception to celebrate the launch of the new Ronald McDonald Care Mobile®.
