Healthy NewsWorks teacher wins Penn award
May 15, 2015

May 2015…Congratulations to Aviva Habib, a Healthy NewsWorks teacher, who  won a recent Alumni/Early Career Award of Merit from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE). According to Penn GSE, the award “recognizes a Penn GSE alumnus or alumna who has shown outstanding service to the University of Pennsylvania and Penn GSE prior to their 10th reunion year and is setting an inspirational example for future alumni.”

Aviva graduated from Penn GSE in 2010 with an M.S.Ed. in elementary education.  She won the award in part due to her work with Healthy NewsWorks and her formation of an Alumni Volunteer Program, which “encourages students to volunteer and regularly visit their former elementary school, engaging in community service and mentoring.”

Aviva, who currently teaches upper elementary grades at the Philadelphia Montessori Charter School and at the Jane Fishman Grinberg Religious School, first started working with Healthy NewsWorks (then Healthy Times) while she was a student teacher at Henry Lea Elementary School in West Philadelphia. She brought the Healthy NewsWorks program to the Philadelphia Montessori Charter School in 2010. She is not only a dedicated teacher, but a dedicated Healthy NewsWorks editor as well.
