December 2012…Students and parents attended a health information workshop to gain skills in finding trustworthy health information on the internet. A one-hour presentation in Norristown on November 30, 2012, provided the workshop attendees with tips for using search engines to search for health information websites. This hands-on computer class also offered evaluation guidelines for health websites to ensure the information is from a reliable source. Parent and kid-friendly health websites were also highlighted.
The workshop was presented by Andrea Kenyon, AMLS, a health information literacy consultant for Healthy NewsWorks. Thank you to the Center for Culture, Art, Training and Education (CCATE), for hosting the workshop. CCATE is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to help empower the Hispanic community in the greater Montgomery County area in Pennsylvania.
