June 2012… Students from the Hope Partnership for Education in North Philadelphia speak in this two-minute video about what they’ve learned through the Healthy NewsWorks student media program.
The students were part of the Healthy Hope newspaper staff during the 2011-12 school year, the first year Healthy NewsWorks teamed up with the independent middle school in North Philadelphia.
Several Hope students also contributed to the 2012 Healthy NewsWorks book, Leading Healthy Change In Our Communities.
“I’ve learned that I was a good reporter,” said Malvin, a sixth grader. “And that I can write a lot when I put my mind to it.”
Kenny, another sixth grader, spoke about visiting the Philadelphia Eagles training center as part of the book project.
“One thing I learned is that you can achieve anything if you can work hard enough to accomplish your goals and never give up and just keep trying,” he said.
